Houston Texans signing QB Josh Johnson, release Matt McGloin

New, comments

Josh Johnson last threw a regular season pass in 2011.

The Houston Texans made a roster move on Tuesday, releasing recently signed quarterback Matt McGloin, and replacing him with quarterback Josh Johnson. Tom Savage is the Texans starting quarterback, and T.J. Yates is serving as his backup.

The Texans are the tenth team Josh Johnson has signed with since entering the NFL in 2008. He also spent part of 2012 with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL.

Josh Johnson last appeared in an NFL game in 2013. He last threw a regular season pass in 2011. Matt McGloin played for Bill O’Brien at Penn State. I am not sure if there is a connection between Johnson and O’Brien. On Monday, O’Brien said he and Texans’ GM Rick Smith discussed all possibilities. In mentioned Colin Kaepernick, he said Kaepernick was a good football player who, “hasn’t played in a while.” In related news...
