The San Francisco 49ers have placed offensive tackle Garry Gilliam on injured reserve, and filled the spot on the roster with free agent defensive back Antone Exum Jr, the team announced on Tuesday.
Gilliam started the season as the primary backup at swing tackle but has been dealing with a knee injury, forcing the 49ers to start Erik Magnuson at right tackle and Trent Brown at left tackle. They also have been playing Zane Beadles, which has really hurt them on the sack front.
Exum spent three years with the Minnesota Vikings, appearing in 27 games (two starts) with 18 tackles, two fumble recovers and one forced fumble. He had 13 tackles on special teams, and spent the entire 2016 season on injured reserve, being waived by the Vikings in September of this year.
Exum is notable for this interception against the 49ers in the preseason, as noted by Chris Biderman.

The injuries continue in San Francisco, with no end in sight.
