The San Francisco 49ers remain winless on the season after a particularly poor showing against the Arizona Cardinals. I was in the middle of a 49-hour charity gaming stream at the time, so I have yet to watch the game in its entirety, and that’s why your DOOM Index is late this week.
Following the Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, 57 percent of voters selected the “most doomed” option, the overwhelming majority. In that poll, 29 percent went with “pretty doomed” and just seven percent went with “least doomed.”
Just a day later, the 49ers made a trade for Garoppolo, and the results were far, far different. A small 12 percent of voters picked “most doomed” while a massive 33 percent went with “least doomed.” Right behind that was “kinda doomed” at 26 percent.
As usual, you can find the full history of the Doom Index at this Imgur gallery here.
So, the Garoppolo trade is still a thing that happened. Presumably, his chances of becoming the 49ers’ franchise quarterback are just as good now as they were the last time we ran a poll. But has the poor offensive line play and general bad showing against the Cardinals changed things?
