The NFL is back for Week 15, and while we have a pretty crappy Thursday Night Football matchup, we do get to watch an old friend. The Indianapolis Colts host the Denver Broncos on TNF, in a matchup that is all about draft positioning and our man Frank Gore. The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT on NBC, with Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Heather Cox on the broadcast.
Frank Gore enters the game with 13,827 career rushing yards, and 17,433 total yards from scrimmage. He is 274 yards back of Curtis Martin (14,101) for fourth on the all-time rushing leader board, and 221 back of Marcus Allen (17,654) for seventh on the all-time yards from scrimmage leaderboard. Gore currently has 762 rushing yards this season, meaning he needs 238 yards these final three weeks to crack 1,000 yards. He has 941 total yards from scrimmage in 2017, which means he needs 59 to get over 1,000 for the 12th straight season, and 259 to get over 1,200 yards from scrimmage, also for the 12th straight season. Keep padding that Hall of Fame resume, Frank the Tank!
The Colts are a 2.5-point home underdog in a game that is entirely about draft position. The Colts are tied with the 49ers at 3-10 and hold the No. 3 pick. The Broncos are 4-9 and hold the No. 5 pick. Head-to-head result is not a tiebreaker for draft order — it comes down to strength of schedule. The Colts and Broncos are similar there (.490 and .486, respectively). The 49ers are at .519, so they would fall behind both of them in the event of a tie.
I’m a fan of home dogs, and I think Frank Gore can help carry his Colts to victory, so I’m taking the points.
