Ahkello Witherspoon, Greg Mabin are game-time decisions for Week 15 49ers vs. Titans

The 49ers might need to add a cornerback from the practice.

The San Francisco 49ers secondary could be short-handed on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon (knee) and Greg Mabin (calf) are both listed as questionable. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told the media they are both game-time decisions.

Witherspoon suffered a knee injury in the second half of last week’s game. An MRI revealed a sprain that was not too serious, but he was limited in practice all week. Mabin suffered a calf injury either Wednesday or Thursday at practice. He was not on Wednesday’s injury report, but then was listed as limited on Thursday and Friday.

If both cannot play, Leon Hall would get the start opposite Dontae Johnson. The 49ers have until 1:00 p.m. PT on Saturday to promote a player from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. Shanahan said he would check on Witherspoon and Mabin today, but a final decision would not be made on their status until Sunday. He expected a cornerback would probably get promoted from the practice. With the 49ers placing Trent Brown on injured reserve, it opens that spot up. Channing Stribling and Tyvis Powell are the two options available on the practice squad.
