Derrick Morgan ruled out for 49ers vs. Titans

The best pass rusher on the Titans won’t be in action against the 49ers.

The Tennessee Titans ruled out linebacker Derrick Morgan for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Morgan is missing his second consecutive game with a knee injury, and his absence definitely hurts the team in the pass rushing department.

Morgan leads the team with 7.5 sacks, but then again, the Titans are pretty good at getting to the quarterback even without him. He missed the team’s Week 14 game against the Arizona Cardinals, but they still sacked Blaine Gabbert a massive eight times for a loss of 53 yards.

Jurrell Casey had two sacks while all of Johnathan Cyprien, Erik Walden, David King, Avery Williamson and Brian Orakpo had a single sack against the Cardinals. It’s worth noting, of course, that the Cardinals have a pretty terrible offensive line.

The 49ers, of course, also have a pretty terrible offensive line. It got even worse when starting right tackle Trent Brown was placed on injured reserve on Friday.

So, Morgan missing Sunday’s game is good news for Zane Beadles and the rest of the line, but the Titans have recorded 20 sacks over the past three weeks, the highest three-game total in Titans franchise history, and the highest three-week total in the NFL since 2014, according to John Glennon.

Sunday could be an ugly one.
