So I have 29 days before I have to start remembering to write 2018...sigh. I really hate the end of the year.
But there’s one good thing to end this year: The dawn of the Jimmy Garoppolo era. In case you just went AWOL for the season (and who could blame you), 49ers quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo will be starting on Sunday. While there’s really no way around this, given the injuries to C.J. Beathard, I’m still a bit worried. Garoppolo is going behind a patchwork offensive line and doesn’t know the extent of the playbook yet. At the same time, we may as well test what he has. Garoppolo may find himself in this position again in his career so let’s see how he does when the team around him is in shambles.
I just don’t want him to get hurt. He’s played behind New England’s O-line and showed some terrific poise. He’s going to find more defenders in his face trying to knock his head off here than he ever did for the Patriots. This though, is why you spent the 2nd round pick on him. Come training camp, the 49ers won’t have to worry about installing a playbook or teaching him rudamentary offense. The pick gave the 49ers a head start in installing things for Garoppolo so he can walk in on day one next year and know where everyone should be. So it’s nice he’s starting, it’s nice that he’s going to show what he’s got at this point.
Just please, don’t get hurt Jimmy G.
