Marquise Goodwin back at practice, DeForest Buckner making progress but still out

The 49ers have some questions heading into their final day of practice for Week 16.

The San Francisco 49ers released their Thursday practice participation report, and there is some good and bad. The good news is Marquise Goodwin was back at practice. He is dealing with a back issue, but missed Wednesday’s practice to deal with a family matter. Matt Barrows reported that Goodwin will meet with the media on Friday to discuss things further.

The bad news is DeForest Buckner is still out. He was a DNP for the second straight day due to an ankle injury. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh was asked how Buckner is doing, and he said, “He’s moving along. Trainers have said that he looks good. So, we’ll see how it goes later on in the week.”

An optimist would look at Saleh’s comments as good news, and the team is just being cautious in practice. A pessimist might look at this as the 49ers attempting to keep the Jacksonville Jaguars on their toes about Buckner’s availability. I lean toward the former, but we don’t really know. His Friday status could tell us a lot more.
