49ers fall to No. 7 overall after beating Jaguars

The 49ers keep winning, and they keep falling in the NFL Draft order.

After another Sunday full of games, the top three picks in the NFL Draft are set, or at least the three teams are. The Cleveland Browns have locked down the first overall pick after their 15th loss, while the second and third picks belong to the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts.

That order can still switch though, but they are the only teams vying for the top three. By beating the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers fell even further in the draft order. They are tied with three other teams with five wins, and currently are set to pick second among those teams, behind the Denver Broncos.

In other words, the 49ers currently have the No. 7 overall pick in the draft. Without quarterback being a first-round need though, the drop isn’t as big a deal as it would have been a few weeks ago.

Currently, the Browns have the first and fifth picks, since they possess the first-rounder from the Houston Texans. That pick can be as high as fourth, too, if the Texans lose on Monday and then again in Week 17.

All six of the spots above the 49ers are occupied by teams that lost their last game. Five of them have lost four-plus in a row each. The Chicago Bears are another five-win team, like the 49ers, thanks to them winning their game this week.

The 49ers can still fall quite a few places with another win. But it’s safe to say that’s not going to slow them down. The top 10 picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, as of Sunday’s games, are below.

  1. Cleveland Browns (0-15)
    2. New York Giants (2-13)
    3. Indianapolis Colts (3-12)
    4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-11)
    5. Houston Texans (4-10)
    6. Denver Broncos (5-10, .485 SOS)
    7. San Francisco 49ers (5-10, .521 SOS)
    8. New York Jets (5-10, .523 SOS)
    9. Chicago Bears (5-10, .555 SOS)
