The San Francisco 49ers will travel to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17, but the status of the betting line is still up in the air. Our friends at Odds Shark track various online and Las Vegas-based sportsbooks. In looking through the 49ers-Rams matchup, the line varies. The Rams have been installed as anywhere from five to 6.5 point favorites, but not every sportsbook has opened the line.

Not every line has opened because the Rams might decide to rest some starters in Week 17. They clinched the NFC West in Week 16 with their win over the Tennessee Titans. They improved to 11-4 with the win, and are tied with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers in the NFC. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings improved to 12-3, while the 12-2 Philadelphia Eagles play on Monday.

The Rams cannot supplant either of them in the standings, so they can only be either third or fourth seed. As the third seed, they would host the sixth seed (currently the Atlanta Falcons) in the first round. As the fourth seed, they would host the fifth seed (currently the Carolina Panthers). They might have a preference, or they might just decide to rest their starters and get ready for their wild card round matchup.

The 49ers will be sending out all their starters, but the Rams have some decisions to make. I honestly don’t really know what to expect. My guess is they play their starters at least through the first half, but beyond that, who knows. Rams head coach Sean McVay will meet with the media later this week, at which point we might get a better idea of what his plan is.
