Jimmy Garoppolo has completely changed the 49ers from the moment he took over the starting job. He led the team to their 4th straight victory, this time against the #1 ranked defense in the Jacksonville Jaguars. He helped the offense put up 37 points on the Jaguars and with the help of a pick six by Dontae Johnson, the 49ers beat the Jaguars 44-33 on Christmas Eve.
The 49ers are in a great position with one game left in the 2017 season. With the emergence of their franchise quarterback, they are looking like a team that could make some noise next season if they can fix a few holes on the team this upcoming offseason. The 49ers will have to figure out what to do with Jimmy with his impeding free agency, but one way or another, he will be back as the starter. They should feel comfortable paying Jimmy the salary deserving of a franchise quarterback.
Jimmy did not put up 300 yards on the Jaguars, but he did finish 21 of 30 with 242 yards and two touchdown passes. He started the scoring with a touchdown run. He only threw one interception in the red zone after getting hit while throwing. The offensive line did well to protect him. He was only sacked once by the Jaguars who were the league leaders in sacks. Rushing touchdowns by Carlos Hyde and Matt Breida completed the 49ers’ touchdown barrage and sent fans away in a frenzy on Christmas Eve.
