The final week of the 2017 NFL season brings with it quite the rumor. Pro Football Weekly writer Hub Arkush is reporting that he is hearing Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians will step down after this season.
Arkush is reporting this is due to the Cardinals potential rebuild process coupled with Arians’ health issues in recent years. He appears to be looking at taking a hiatus for the time being. If that’s the case and he wants to get back into coaching, it’s safe to say that will happen sooner rather than later.
This shakes up the NFC West a little bit, just as we might be seeing a changing of the guard. The Los Angeles Rams won the division and the San Francisco 49ers suddenly appear to be a hot team to consider in 2018. The Seattle Seahawks are 9-6 and have a shot at a playoff berth, but it’s been a slog amidst numerous injuries and continued poor offensive line play.
The Cardinals find themselves in a rough position. They lost Carson Palmer to injury, coming after a 2016 season in which things went south for them. Palmer might be back next year, but they seem closer to rebuilding than contention. This will certainly shake things up a bit.
