San Francisco 49ers defensive end Solomon Thomas is nominated for the NFL Rookie of the Week award for his performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Thomas, a first-round pick by the 49ers, recorded six tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and one quarterback hit against the Jaguars, according to NFL.com.
Winning the award is easier said than done, however. Marshon Lattimore of the New Orleans Saints is one of the players nominated and he’s been phenomenal this year. Lattimore had six tackles, four pass breakups and an interception in New Orleans’ win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Kareem Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs is my personal rookie of the year, and he had a good game against the Miami Dolphins from a pure yardage standpoint, putting up 91 yards. It’s one of the weaker weeks for Hunt, though.
Deatrich Wise of the New England Patriots and Keelan Cole of the Jacksonville Jaguars are the other players nominated.
The Saints have dominated the rookie of the week award over the course of the season. Alvin Kamara won it in Week 4, Lattimore in Week 6, Lattimore in Week 8, Kamara in Weeks 10, 11, 12 and 13 and then Lattimore again in Week 15.
Yeah, it’s been a good year for those rookies.
But if you’re feeling like Thomas deserves the award (or you’re sick of the Saints’ dominance), head on over to NFL.com and give him a vote for his performance. He hasn’t been perfect this year, and needs to get better at rushing the passer, but he’s had a string of decent performances down the stretch.
