Jimmy Garoppolo’s agent, Don Yee, will be looking to negotiate a sizable extension this offseason for his new star client. While it is not an entirely difficult sell, I think we now know what will be at the very top of the list of evidence for big money. For the second straight week, Garoppolo is taking home a made-up award for clutch play.
The NFL has made up awards to slap sponsors on, including the Castrol Edge Clutch Performer of the Week, the Pepsi Rookie of the Week, and the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the week. They are fan voted awards, slowly reaching a level on par with the Pro Bowl.
I do like seeing 49ers players getting credit for their performances, but the commercialization cracks me up. I suppose me writing about them means the NFL gets a win and can point to the clicks that get people viewing the sponsors. I am just part of the endless cycle that is NFL sponsorships.
That aside, the question I really want answered: Does Jimmy G get motor oil for winning this award?
