Jimmy Garoppolo is off to a busy start in his starting debut for the San Francisco 49ers, and that included a bad historical moment. Garoppolo threw his first career interception on a pass attempt to Louis Murphy.
Garoppolo actually completed the pass to Murphy, throwing high above a defender. However, Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller went up for the ball and yanked it out of Murphy’s hands. Here’s a GIF, followed by some video.

Interceptions are not always the quarterback’s fault, and that is the case with this interception. It was actually a really good throw by Garoppolo, throwing it out of the reach of the defenders. Fuller did a great job getting his hand in there and yanking it out of Murphy’s hands. Murphy thought he had gotten down to the ground, but the replay confirmed the pick.
The 49ers lead 3-0, with the Bears driving following the interception.
