The San Francisco 49ers will play their final game of the season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. As usual, we’re going to take a crack at predicting who will be inactive for the matchup.
Against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16, the 49ers declared wide receiver Max McCaffrey, linebacker Pita Taumoepenu, defensive linemen Aaron Lynch, Leger Douzable and D.J. Jones and defensive backs Greg Mabin and Antone Exum Jr.
At this point, Lynch is done with the 49ers and he won’t be active on Sunday. They gave him a shot and apparently didn’t like what they saw, so he’ll be hitting free agency.
Mabin was ruled out ahead of time with an injury, but is not listed on the injury report going into today’s game against the Rams. I’d expect he’ll be active, as the 49ers want to see something in Dontae Johnson’s spot. I doubt Johnson himself is inactive, though. We can assume Exum will be inactive, as he has been.
There is no reason to think that Jones, McCaffrey and Taumoepenu will be active at this point, either. I suppose it’s possible the 49ers want a chance to see them before the season is over, but I doubt it. Douzable is a known commodity and should continue to be inactive.
So really, at this point, everything is looking the same save for Mabin, and he’s not guaranteed to be active. It’s likely the 49ers make that spot a defensive back.
