San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was taken to the hospital for what the team called a “precautionary evaluation” after a scary hit that caused a concussion against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Fortunately, Goodwin has already been released from the hospital, and he’ll make the trip home with his teammates, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed after the game.

Goodwin has been a fantastic player this season, and in the face of great personal tragedy. He lost both his son and his father this season, but he’s turned in a career year and is a favorite in the locker room. He’s been an important part of what has been a wild season for the 49ers.

I hope Goodwin has no lasting effects from this injury. He went through the NFL concussion protocol once already this season, and has been evaluated for concussions four times when he was with the Buffalo Bills.

Goodwin finished his season with 962 yards, well ahead of his previous career best of 431 yards. He should be a big factor in the 49ers’ plans going forward.
