Jimmy Garoppolo is a solid waiver wire add in Week 14

The 49ers new starting quarterback is owned in few leagues.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo got off to a strong start in his debut start in Week 13. Against the Chicago Bears, Garoppolo completed 27 of 36 pass attempts for 293 yards with one interception and eight rushing yards. It was not a perfect performance, but it was enough to get the 49ers a victory.

Even though Garoppolo was unable to find the end zone on Sunday, his performance suggests he could be a good add in fantasy football leagues. Most leagues are starting their playoffs in Week 14, and there are plenty of question marks at the quarterback position. If you are in a two-QB league he is a great add, but even in one-QB leagues, there is still some value to be had.

Garoppolo is currently owned in 16 percent of Yahoo! leagues and 14.5 percent of ESPN leagues. He is going to be available if you want him. And if you are in a keeper or dynasty league, he is a must add. His numbers should only improve on a consistent basis as he gets more comfortable in the 49ers offense. Kyle Shanahan has said a couple times now that he expects Garoppolo to be more comfortable in the offense next year rather than this year. He has a month in the system, and now a game and three snaps in another play.

This weekend he faces a Houston Texans defense that is still solid, but not quite the world beaters they have been. Injuries have been problematic for them, and it provides an opportunity for Garoppolo and the 49ers offense to take another step forward. It is a winnable game, and maybe we see Garoppolo find the end zone for the second time as 49ers starting quarterback.
