Everyone seems so excited about our new head coach and general manager. There is so much confidence that these guys are going to lead us to the promise land. I really wish I could be a part of it. I really do, but I am having a hard time joining in the excitement.
It really doesn’t have much to do with Kyle Shanahan or John Lynch. It has to do with John and Denise York. When I lost my glorious team to them back in 2000, they might as well have ripped out my heart. I numbly watched our great team go into a tail spin. Year after year we sat in NFL purgatory. Even when Jim Harbaugh took the team to the Super Bowl, something still did not feel right. It wasn’t the same kind of totally dynamic team that I had loved so much in the eighties and nineties. Not even close. The fortyniner image of the past was gone. It was like the world had moved on and left us old 49ers fans behind.
Now we suddenly have a head coach that is supposedly going to make our team dynamic again. We are supposedly doing all of the right things. These guys are going to bring back the glory years. You do realize I have heard this from somewhere around ten different coaches in the less than twenty years the Yorks have had a strangle hold on my team. I know I should be excited but I just continue to sit here in a dazed stupor, wondering when reality is going to smash me on the head once again. Maybe I am just getting old and tired?
