49ers hire former Washington strength & conditioning coach, per report

Kyle Shanahan is bringing in another member of the coaching staff with whom he has extensive history.

The San Francisco 49ers cleared out their entire strength and conditioning staff after firing Chip Kelly, and Kyle Shanahan is beginning the process of replenishing the group. Matt Maiocco is reporting Shanahan has hired former Washington strength and conditioning coach Ray Wright.

Wright spent fives seasons in Washington, from 2010 to 2014. Prior to that he spent eight years with the Houston Texans, including seven as assist strength coach, and one as head strength coach. Washington fired Wright at the end of the 2014 season. He spent the past year and a half working in Houston for O Athletik, according to what appears to be his LinkedIn page.

Wright worked with Kyle Shanahan in both Washington and Houston. This continues the pattern of coaches who have experience with him. I imagine we will see some assistants hired more from word of mouth, but for the most part, Shanahan is focused on people he knows and trusts.
