Kyle Shanahan, 49ers announce 3 coaching hires

The 49ers are filling out the offensive side of the ball first.

The San Francisco 49ers announced three more members of the coaching staff on Monday. The team has formally hired Taylor Embree (Offensive Quality Control), Mike LaFleur (Wide Receivers), and Mike McDaniel (Run Game Specialist)

The 49ers sent along these bios for the three coaches. As always, the best read on a quality control is this 2009 New York Times article. The coaching staff now looks as follows, while we continue waiting for formal announcements on the defensive side of the ball:

Quarterbacks: Rich Scangarello
Run Game Specialist: Mike McDaniel
Running Backs: Bobby Turner
Wide Receivers: Mike LaFleur
Tight Ends: Jon Embree (assistant head coach)
Offensive Quality Control: Taylor Embree
Offensive Assistant: T.C. McCartney

Strength & Conditioning: Ray Wright as an offensive assistant
Administrative assistant to the head coach: Nick Kray

Embree, 28, enters his first season with the 49ers as an offensive quality control coach. In 2016, he entered the NFL coaching ranks as a defensive assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to Kansas City, Embree spent one season (2014) as a graduate assistant/offense with the UCLA football program. A native of Denver, CO, and the son of 49ers assistant head coach/tight ends coach Jon Embree, he appeared in all 50 games during his four-year career (2008-11) as a wide receiver at UCLA.

LaFleur, 29, enters his first season as the 49ers wide receivers coach having spent the previous two seasons (2015-16) as an offensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons. He first entered the NFL in 2014 as an offensive coaching intern with the Cleveland Browns. Prior to Cleveland, LaFleur was the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at Davidson College in 2013. Prior to joining Davidson, he spent three seasons at Saint Joseph’s College as quarterbacks coach (2010) and offensive coordinator (2011-12). LaFleur began his coaching career at his alma mater, Elmhurst College, as an offensive assistant working with quarterbacks. A native of Mount Pleasant, MI, he was a team captain and three-time letter winner as a quarterback and safety at Elmhurst.

McDaniel, 33, enters his first season as the 49ers run game specialist after spending the previous two seasons as an offensive assistant for the Atlanta Falcons (2015-16). He joined Atlanta after spending one season as the wide receivers coach for the Cleveland Browns (2014). Prior to his time in Cleveland, McDaniel spent three seasons with the Washington Redskins, starting as an offensive assistant (2011-12), before being promoted to wide receivers coach in 2013. McDaniel joined the Redskins after serving as the running backs coach for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League for two season (2009-10). He spent the previous three seasons (2006-08) as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans and spent one season as an intern with the Denver Broncos in 2005. A native of Greeley, CO, McDaniel attended Yale University where he was a wide receiver for the Bulldogs.
