The San Francisco 49ers have not formally announced any of their defensive coaches, but reports have them getting closer to filling out the staff. Sporting News NFL columnist Alex Marvez has a new name for the list. He is reporting the team is expected to hire Daniel Bullocks to serve as assistant defensive backs coach.
Bullocks spent four seasons in the NFL as a safety with the Detroit Lions. He was a second round pick in 2006, but an ACL injury in 2007, and another knee injury in 2009 ended his career. He moved into coaching in 2012, as defensive backs coach for Northern Iowa. He joined Nebraska as a defensive backs coach in 2015, and was then hired to be the Jacksonville Jaguars assistant defensive backs coach in 2016. He was dismissed with most of the rest of the defensive coaching staff when Doug Marrone took over as head coach.
Kyle Shanahan is expected to retain defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley in the same role, which means Bullocks would be his primary assistant. On the defensive side of the ball, linebackers coach Jason Tarver is also expected to be retained, and the team is expected to hire Jeff Zgonina to coach the defensive line.
