Super Bowl 51 final score: Tom Brady amazes, time for Kyle Shanahan to depart

What a game. Just, wow.

Wow! What a game. The New England Patriots staged the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history to beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in Super Bowl 51. Tom Brady joins Charles Haley in the exclusive five-Lombardi club.

The Falcons led 28-3 at one point, but Tom Brady and the Patriots offense did not give up. They scored a touchdown, but missed the extra point. They then kicked a field goal and scored another touchdown to cut the lead to 28-20. Atlanta had a chance to put the game away with a field goal late in the fourth quarter, but a sack and a penalty moved them out of field goal range. The Patriots drove 91 yards and tied the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion.

The big news for San Francisco 49ers fans now is that Kyle Shanahan is free and clear to sign with the team. Jed York is in Houston for the Super Bowl, so I imagine early Monday morning they will sit down and finalize his contract. I suppose they could meet up tonight, but I would hope Jed gives Kyle a chance to live it up and enjoy the Super Bowl victory.

I would expect a formal announcement on Shanahan sometime Monday morning. That’s what happened with Dan Quinn in 2015 after the Seahawks lost Super Bowl 49 to the Patriots.
