Golden Nuggets: 49ers Get Their Guy Finally

The worst kept secret in the coaching vacancy carousel is finally over. The 49ers hired Kyle Shanahan as their new head coach. The 49ers showed patience in waiting for Kyle to finish his playoff run and were rewarded in the signing of their man. Kyle was one of the top prizes in the coaching search along with Josh McDaniels, but with McDaniels staying in New England, Kyle was the top guy.

Kyle joins John Lynch as a 1st time head coach/GM duo. They both signed 6 year deals, which shows that the 49ers are committed to them for the long run. The amount of time is important because Kyle and John have a major rebuild on their hands. The roster is very bare, but they have an opportunity in the draft and free agency to start building. They currently have a lot of cash to spend in getting veterans to fill out the roster and the #2 pick in the draft.

Coming from the Atlanta Falcons and all the weapons they possess on offense, Kyle is taking a step down in talent in coming to the 49ers. The 49ers have no quarterbacks on the roster currently and aside from Carlos Hyde, they do not have much talent on the offensive side. Kyle and John will likely bring in a veteran QB from free agency as well as draft one. A lot of mock drafts have the 49ers picking Mitch Trubisky with the #2 pick. Kyle has been shown to be able to coach QBs and the 49ers will count on him doing the same this time around.
