The Cleveland Browns have begun their on-going overhaul at the quarterback position, releasing Josh McCown. McCown made three starts over five appearances this past season. He completed 90 of 165 passes for 1,100 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Browns currently have Robert Griffin III, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan under contract. RG3 is signed through 2017, but if the Browns release him before the third day of the new league year, they would clear $6.9 million in cap space, and only carry $1.75 million in dead money.
Cleveland is reportedly interested in Jimmy Garoppolo, and people have offered up predictions that Colin Kaepernick could end up there. And of course, with the 1st and 12th pick, they could grab pass rusher Myles Garrett and still potentially land a quarterback in the first round if they were so inclined.
With all that in mind, it’s prediction time. When Week 1 of the 2017 NFL regular season arrives, who will be the Cleveland Browns quarterback? Given the Browns history, odds are decent whomever is starting Week 1 won’t last, but maybe Hue Jackson can turn things around. So, who is it going to be when the Browns open their upcoming season?
