The San Francisco 49ers signed two free agent quarterbacks last week, and it would appear they are just about set to focus exclusively on the draft. General manager John Lynch was on KNBR Friday morning, and he said the front office and coaching staff are doing a QB road trip next week.
Lynch said he, VP of Player Personnel Adam Peters, senior personnel executive Martin Mayhew, and QB coach Rich Scangarello are going to visit a handful of schools next week. They will include trips to North Carolina, Clemson, and Notre Dame. Lynch said they will observe Mitch Trubisky and DeShone Kizer at their school Pro Days. However, the team will hold a semi-private workout with Deshaun Watson. Lynch said they will hold the workout with one other team. He also said the 49ers will have some dinners with players, and my guess is that will include Trubisky and Kizer.
The 49ers signed Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley last week. Lynch said the team is still open for free agent business, but they are starting to wind down. That would suggest any additional quarterbacks of note will come through the draft. Something could still happen with Kirk Cousins or Jimmy Garoppolo or one of the other QBs of note, but it seems like there will not be a big name addition the rest of this offseason.
