The San Francisco 49ers have the opportunity to meet with up to 60 players, and they had a big interview Wednesday evening. General manager John Lynch told the media on Thursday that the team met with Notre Dame quarterback and he “blew the doors off” his interview.
Lynch is in his first Combine as a front office person, and he is happy to talk up the quarterbacks. He said DeShaun Watson has an aura about him, and he also mentioned interest in Mitch Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes. Considering all four are considered first round prospects, it is not surprising he would talk up all of them. And hey, maybe the 49ers can encourage somebody to offer up a nice haul to move up to the No. 2 pick.
The 49ers have a need at quarterback, and the decision on it will likely come from Kyle Shanahan. Lynch and others will certainly have their share of input on it, but the team hired Shanahan to rebuild the offense. He knows quarterbacks, he knows offense, so one would hope he has the biggest say on how the team addresses the quarterback position.
