Jets sign Josh McCown as bridge QB, where does Jay Cutler land?

The Jets are never going to figure out their QB position.

The New York Jets have apparently figured out some kind of short-term answer at quarterback. The team signed Josh McCown to a one-year contract, according to his agent. NFL Network confirmed the deal is worth a fully guaranteed $6 million, while Albert Breer reported he also has $2 million in playing time incentives and $5 million in team incentives. He joins Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty, and potentially someone else if the Jets have any plans for the future.

The most interesting angle out of this is the fact that Jay Cutler had been connected to the Jets. The former Chicago Bears quarterback does not seem to be in a hurry to find a new home for 2017. There were some hints he might retire, and he might be fine with sitting out 2017 and beyond if the right option does not come along.

Once Tony Romo’s situation gets figured out, that leaves Cutler and Colin Kaepernick looking for work. Chase Daniel and Ryan Fitzpatrick would be options to potentially compete for some kind of option somewhere. Not exactly a pretty picture with five weeks remaining until the 2017 NFL Draft.
