Hamilton Tiger Cats add Colin Kaepernick to exclusive negotiation list

New, comments

I do not anticipate seeing Colin Kaepernick playing in the CFL.

The football future of Colin Kaepernick is up in the air, but he does have one option if he so chooses. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League have added Kaepernick to their exclusive negotiation list, according to CFL reporter Justin Dunk.

The negotiation list is what the CFL uses for international players outside of the CFL. A player does not necessarily know they have been added to the list. A team submits an application to include a player on their list, and then once the player is added, he can only negotiate with that team if he wants to come to the CFL. We’ve heard notable names added in the past, including Johnny Manziel, and earlier this offseason, Vince Young.

Free agency is only a week-and-a-half old, and plenty more will happen with the NFL quarterback market. We’ve seen guys like E.J. Manuel (Raiders), Geno Smith (Giants), and Nick Foles (Eagles) all land deals. At some point in the next few weeks, Jay Cutler and Tony Romo will figure out their next destination. It could leave Kaepernick competing with QBs like Ryan Fitzpatrick for some kind of opportunity.
