49ers free agent RB Shaun Draughn agrees to contract with New York Giants

New, comments

The 49ers need to find someone to complement Carlos Hyde. It will not be Shaun Draughn.

The San Francisco 49ers have been quiet on the running back front, and one option is off the table. Free agent Shaun Draughn has agreed to terms with the New York Giants, according to his agent (via Adam Schefter). He joins a depth chart that includes Paul Perkins, Shane Vereen, and Orleans Darkwa, among others.

The 49ers running back depth chart currently includes Carlos Hyde, Mike Davis, and Raheem Mostert. The team signed fullback Kyle Juszczyk, and while he is not listed as a running back, his versatility means he will likely get plenty of work in some running back roles.

Juszczyk aside, the team will need to find some additional options to complement Hyde. The team hosted Tim Hightower last week, but otherwise have not been connected to other backs. They could make a serious impact at the No. 2 pick, but if someone like Christian McCaffrey was there at No. 34, maybe the 49ers go with him. There are some quality running backs to be had, and while the 49ers have a ton of needs, adding an impact player to the backfield would certainly be a plus!
