Kyle Shanahan attended Stanford Pro Day, real value for him is film watching

New, comments

The 49ers head coach indicated he would not be at every private QB workout the 49ers conduct.

The Stanford University Pro Day took place on Thursday, and naturally the San Francisco 49ers had a contingent on hand at a campus that is just down the road from the team’s Santa Clara headquarters.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan took in the event, as he did not join the 49ers brain trust on their QB tour of North Carolina, Clemson, and Notre Dame. 49ers beat writers were on hand, and had plenty to report from the event. Additionally, Cam Inman offered up this recap of chatting with Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan has been spending time watching film and getting the coaching staff ready for the start of the 49ers offseason workout program. He said he can get film from most of the Pro Days, which allows him to be more efficient with his time in Santa Clara.

Shanahan said the team will do some private workouts with the quarterbacks, but he also suggested he might not be involved in all those workouts. He said he would be involved in some, and QB coach Rich Scangarello would handle some. I wonder if that plan was developed from the beginning, or if Shanahan has narrowed down who he likes sufficiently to cut some out of his end of the process?

We don’t know what the 49ers have planned for next month’s draft, and so we’re left to speculate based on each little piece of data. I doubt we find out who specifically is at which private workouts, so we’ll just have to do some guess-work!
