Bears sign Mark Sanchez to back up Mike Glennon

I’m looking forward to watching this depth chart in action.

The Chicago Bears apparently have figured out their quarterback depth chart for the offseason, and boy is it something. The team announced on Friday that they have signed Mark Sanchez to a one-year contract. With the Sanchez signing, their QB depth chart includes Mike Glennon, Mark Sanchez, David Fales, and Connor Shaw.

The news of the Sanchez signing resulted in this tweet from Adam Schefter.

The Bears signed Glennon to a three-year $45 million contract, but in reality they can get out with relative ease after one year. They are rolling the dice hoping Glennon can emerge as some kind of option, but clearly they recognize it is nowhere near a certainty.

The Bears hold the third pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and have plenty of their own needs. I doubt they draft a quarterback at No. 3, but I could see a day two QB pick. That being said, I really look forward to seeing them roll out a 1-2 punch of Mike Glennon and Mark Sanchez in 2017. I have a decent idea how that ends, and if the 49ers are not competing for a playoff spot this season, I can easily find entertainment from the Bears QB depth chart.
