John Lynch says 49ers working on re-signing some of their own players

The 49ers will have at least 18 unrestricted free agents. Will the 49ers get any extended before Thursday?

The San Francisco 49ers have an extensive list of free agents, and while most are not long-term options for the team, the team is looking at some potential deals. General manager John Lynch spoke with the Bay Area media on Thursday, and he said the team is working on some of their own free agents, according to Eric Branch.

“Some of those are in the process of going on right now,” Lynch said. “Hopefully, we see some things in the next couple of days.”

Lynch acknowledged the team does not have as much talent to extend as they would like. He has talked about the importance of drafting and developing, and on Thursday he said the team simply is not there yet for a ton of extensions.

The free agency tampering period gets going next Tuesday, and players can start formally signing with other teams on Thursday. The 49ers have been busy signing recently cut players, but they still have internal free agents to consider. Colin Kaepernick is going to be the most notable free agent when he formally opts out, but the team still has some potential depth options coming up.

The 49ers have two exclusive rights free agents in defensive lineman Mike Purcell and linebacker Carl Bradford. The 49ers tendered both, which means once they sign their tenders, they will be ready to report for the offseason program.

The 49ers have two or three restricted free agents at the present time. Defensive back Marcus Cromartie and cornerback Chris Davis are both restricted. I have seen conflicting reports about Andrew Tiller being either restricted or unrestricted. If he is restricted, I suspect the 49ers will tender him and get him in competing at guard. If he is unrestricted, I am not quite as sure what happens with him. He appears to have three accrued seasons, which would make him restricted, so we’ll see if that is how it plays out.

The 49ers have a laundry list of unrestricted free agents. Once Kaepernick formally opts out, the UFA list will include the following 18 players. Do you see any extensions of this group before free agency gets going on Thursday?
