The San Francisco 49ers will add running back depth this offseason, and while I doubt it will happen in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, they could do a lot worse than looking at LSU running back Leonard Fournette. The dominant running back dazzled on Friday, running a 4.51 40-yard dash.
A player’s 40 times is usually not going to be enough to drastically overcome bad film, but Fournette’s circumstances are interesting. He weighed in at 240 pounds, and while he said his weight was higher due to water weight, the fact that he ran that kind of 40 in spite of the weight is impressive. Can you imagine trying to take down that kind of running back in the open field?
More 40 times are coming in, and I figured people might want to see the numbers. We’ll have a full rundown later, but in the meantime, I have embedded a Twitter list of draft writers, many of whom are on hand for the Combine.
