2017 NFL Combine news: WR Corey Davis will not run 40-yard dash

The 49ers need a wide receiver, but where does an ankle injury drop Corey Davis?

The San Francisco 49ers likely have their eye on some wide receivers at the 2017 NFL Combine, but one notable name will not be taking part in on-field activities. Corey Davis has been in the discussion for the top wide receiver taken in the draft, but he is dealing torn ankle ligaments, and will not take part in on-field activities at the Combine.

Davis met with the media on Friday, and he said he will not run at the Combine or at Western Michigan’s Pro Day. However, he did say he will conduct a private workout before the Draft. It is safe to say it will be a highly regarded workout and most if not all teams will be on hand for it.

The 49ers have a need at wide receiver, and the first round is not entirely out of the picture as a time to invest in the position. There has been some talk about Mike Williams, but there have been some mocks that project Davis higher. The latter’s private workout would be critical to that happening, but either way, is it something the 49ers would invest No. 2 on? Or is it something that will involve a move down and then grabbing a wide receiver, or just wait until day two?
