Golden Nuggets: So long, Colin Kaepernick

Saturday, March 4th, 2017 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Good morning everyone. This is my first Golden Nuggets since Colin Kaepernick elected to opt out of his contract, and I’m not at all surprised. Part of me feels like the San Francisco 49ers would have considered paying him what he was owed for 2017 just as a safety net, but there was an equally good chance the team was just going to release him.

I don’t get the feeling that Kaepernick is particularly upset or angry with the 49ers, nor vice versa. But it’s clear Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch need to bring in an outside quarterback, and that quarterback was always going to have a leg-up on Kaepernick when it came to starting in 2017.

It’s still a bit weird to see, though. Kaepernick’s time with the 49ers has been interesting, to say the least. Some initial disappointment about him not seeing the field followed by a mountain of hype followed by colossal disappointment. Moving on is good for both sides, though.

Onto your links for the day.
