The San Francisco 49ers re-signed Jeremy Kerley on Saturday, but they will likely still look to add some wide receiver talent. Whether it be through free agency or the draft, there are a lot of big names to consider.
One of them is Alshon Jeffery, and the 49ers have regularly been connected to him. Mike Garafolo handicapped them as a very early favorite, but they are not legally allowed to contact his agent until next Tuesday. Some informal discussions likely have happened in some way or another, but for the time being Jeffery is legally only allowed to speak with the Chicago Bears.
Jeffery’s agent met with the Bears on Saturday, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, and it was described as a “positive meeting.” Rapoport said both sides are “more than open to a reunion.”
I have to think whatever the market dictates will determine just how open each side is to a reunion. Antonio Brown’s recent $17 million per year deal will adjust the market a bit, and even though Jeffery is no Antonio Brown, he can only benefit from increased pay to the wide receivers.
