In case you are wondering, Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett is a physical freak. Garrett and the rest of the linebackers and defensive linemen ran their 40-yard dashes on Sunday, and the potential top pick of the 2017 NFL Draft ran a 4.64 40. Garrett measured in earlier this week at 6’4, 272 pounds. 4.64 is a solid number for a lot of players, but when you’re carrying that kind of weight, it’s kind of ridiculous.
It has been a strong week all around for Garrett, as he has done a great job solidifying his case as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Garrett has repeatedly said he thinks he is the best player in this draft. There have been some rumblings over the past week that the Cleveland Browns might select Mitch Trubisky, but Garrett has seemingly had a strong enough week to add to his film.
One of the questions Garrett got on Saturday was about his video clowning on the Browns. He talked about wanting to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys to keep him out of Cleveland. He said he was meeting with the Browns later in the day, and would apologize for it. He thought it was just in good fun, and did not realize it would blow up like it did. Safe to say, lesson learned.
The Browns could still surprise and select Trubisky with the top pick, but it is hard to see them passing on a freakish talent like Garrett. He did not exactly have a lot to prove in the Combine given what he know about him, but he still put together a strong performance. Barring anything crazy happening between now and draft day, I don’t see how he doesn’t go No. 1 overall.
