2017 NFL free agency rumors: Bears to make push for Mike Glennon

Several teams need quarterback help, but the market is fairly limited.

The 2017 NFL free agency tampering period gets going at 9 a.m. PT today, and with it will be a major push for a fairly limited quarterback market. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Chicago Bears are expected to make a major push for Mike Glennon. Rapoport reported that the Bears are his preferred destination.

The Bears have put Jay Cutler on the trade market, but we have not really heard any rumors about destinations. There is talk about the New York Jets given his connection to new Jets QB coach Jeremy Bates, but nothing specific has been discussed. The most notable rumor really has been that he might consider retirement.

The Browns, 49ers, and Bears top the 2017 NFL Draft order, and all three are in the market for a quarterback. Mike Glennon, Colin Kaepernick, and Brian Hoyer are the three best options in free agency this year. Kirk Cousins is technically a free agent, but the exclusive franchise tag means he cannot speak with any other team. The trade market includes Tony Romo, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Jay Cutler. There is also the possibility something happens with Tyrod Taylor.

It’s not exactly an ideal market. There is some short-term talent, but as is usually the case with the quarterback market, teams are going to need to hope for the best in the draft if they want a long-term answer.
