The San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Torrey Smith on Tuesday, and it took two days for him to find a new home. Smith is signing a three-year, $15 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Adam Schefter.
The 49ers will face the Eagles in Philadelphia this fall, and will face a strong wide receiver corps. Smith joins a group that includes Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, and Doral Green-Beckham. Tight end Zach Ertz was their leading pass-catcher, with 78 receptions for 816 yards. Carson Wentz had a solid rookie season, and adding a deep threat like Smith should be a big help.
The Eagles have been mentioned in connection with a variety of receivers, including Terrelle Pryor and Brandin Cooks. They might not be done adding receivers, but if they did not sign any more wide receivers, they would be in decent shape.
With Philadelphia signing Smith and the Cleveland Browns signing Kenny Britt, the future of Terrelle Pryor remains interesting. The Tennessee Titans are in the mix, and at one point the Los Angeles Rams might have been an option. However, they are signing Robert Woods to a five-year deal worth $39 million, so I am guessing that might remove them. Maybe the 49ers could be the option for Pryor?
