Alshon Jeffery signs 1-year, $14 million deal with Philadelphia Eagles

Terrelle Pryor remains the intriguing name at this point.

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to sign wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin when free agency opens, and now any thought of Alshon Jeffery is off the table. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport just tweeted that Jeffery has signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for $14 million.

It would appear the injuries and last year’s PED suspension had teams questioning how much to give him. A one-year deal lets him prove he can stay healthy. If he can, he could cash in in a big way next year.

I had said I would prefer Pierre Garcon over Alshon Jeffery given the size of a deal Jeffery might get. I was not anticipating a one-year deal. I’m fine with a veteran like Garcon helping work with the 49ers younger receivers and being a leader for this overhaul. But it is certainly intriguing to see what Jeffery can do on a one-year deal with Carson Wentz and the rest of that deep Eagles receiver corps.

That leaves Brandin Cooks and Terrelle Pryor as the two most notable names on the market. Cooks has been discussed in trade rumors with the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. Pryor has been mentioned in connection with the 49ers, Titans, Eagles, and Browns. The Eagles would seem to be out of it, and we don’t really know what’s up with the Browns.

Pryor has a ton of upside, but only one full season of playing wide receiver. The market for him is kind of difficult to dictate for the time being.
