49ers sign Robbie Gould, Phil Dawson signs with Cardinals

The 49ers are swapping out veteran kickers.

The San Francisco 49ers have made their move for a kicker. Try not to get too excited!

The team did not re-sign Phil Dawson, and instead has signed Robbie Gould to a contract, according to Alex Flanagan. Gould spent last season with the New York Giants after spending his first 11 years with the Chicago Bears. The Bears released him at the end of training camp, and he was a free agent until the Giants needed to replace Josh Brown after the latter was released due to domestic violence.

Meanwhile, Dawson is staying in the NFC West in 2017. He signed a deal with the Arizona Cardinals, and while there are no details, he likely will make something similar to his $3.1 million last season. He’ll get a chance to play for a contender, and while I hope the 49ers surpass the Cardinals this year, if not, I’ll be rooting for Dawson if he gets a chance at a playoff run.
