49ers put QB Davis Webb, WR Chad Hansen through private workout on Tuesday

Add another QB to the 49ers list.

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting their local Pro Day on Wednesday, where they will bring in players who attended Bay Area colleges and/or high schools. The two most notable players are cornerbacks Kevin King (Washington/Oakland) and Chidobe Awuzie (Colorado/San Jose). One player that won’t be attending is Cal quarterback Davis Webb.

That isn’t stopping the 49ers from working out Webb. Matt Barrows is reporting the team had the Cal QB in for a private workout on Tuesday. Barrows is hearing head coach Kyle Shanahan, QB coach Rich Scangarello, and wide receivers coach Mike LaFleur were all on hand for the workout.

Fooch’s update: Wide receiver Chad Hansen also took part in the workout, per Barrows.

Prior to this news, the 49ers had primarily been connected to the biggest QB names. Shanahan and Scangarello conducted a private workout with Mitchell Trubisky last week. Scangarello and GM John Lynch conducted a semi private workout with DeShaun Watson last week. John Lynch was on hand for Patrick Mahomes’ Pro Day, and met with him the night before. The team was also on hand for DeShone Kizer’s Pro Day, and met with him the night before.

Webb is the first report from that next tier of quarterbacks. Kyle Shanahan has said the team does not need to do workouts with every single quarterback. He said on Monday that sometimes the film speaks on its own. General manager John Lynch did say the team spoke at the Combine with all their quarterbacks of interest.
