Is there any way Patrick Mahomes drops further than the Texans at No. 25?

This seems like the worst kept secret of the first round.

The Houston Texans dealt away Brock Osweiler earlier this offseason, leaving them with Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden as their only quarterbacks. They might think Savage could be the answer, but even still, they will likely be investing some serious draft capital in the QB position.

One quarterback regularly connected to them is Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes. They brought him in for a pre-draft visit, and one NFL coach told Tom Pelissero that Texans head coach Bill O’Brien is a huge fan. Mahomes confirmed the news on Path to the Draft.

"I feel like a lot of coaches like me, but especially coach O'Brien. I think my personality and how real I am, those are things beyond what I can do on the field that he likes," Mahomes said. "It seemed like the way I was answering questions, I think he knew that I knew what was going on. You can tell when coaches have a confidence in you."

If Patrick Mahomes is sitting there at No. 25, is there any way the Houston Texans do not take him? This is the time of BS and smoke-screens, but every year it seems like there is regularly a worst-kept secret for the draft. There is talk Mahomes could go higher than 25, but if he doesn’t, the Texans seem to be making it clear that he is there go.

Earlier today, Mel Kiper released his latest mock draft, and in round two he had the 49ers landing Mahomes at No. 34 overall. I would be a fan of that result, but I just see no way it actually happens. It is a time for lies and misrepresentations, but this seems like an exception to that. In one week, we’ll find out!
