2017 NFL mock draft: Live updates for NN community draft, round 6

The NN mock draft is back, and this year we’re hoping to go seven rounds. We move on to round 6!

Welcome to the Niners Nation 2017 NFL mock draft. We’ve brought together 32 site members to potentially go through a full seven rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. I say “potentially” because 253 picks is a lot to get through, even with a month remaining until the draft. But, fingers crossed we power through this.

We’re rolling along, and have moved through the fifth round. On to round six, and the 49ers picks at No. 198 and No. 202 overall! I’ve posted the complete draft results at the bottom of the page.

49ers picks so far: 2) FS Malik Hooker, 34) QB DeShone Kizer, 66) WR Zay Jones, 109) WR Amara Darboh, 143) DT Carlos Watkins, 146) OL Aviante Collins, 161) CB Jeremy Cutrer, 198) RB Aaron Jones, 202) LB Jordan Evans

Full pick rationale for prior rounds:

Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Round 4
Round 5

185. Cleveland Browns - Channing Stribling, CB, Michigan (Davidss)

Stribling has defined strengths and weaknesses. He is a fantastic cover corner in the Richard Sherman type: long, rangy and enough speed. Where he struggles is strength and run support. If he can fix that problem he could turn into a high end starter. Without adding strength he might be out of the league in a year. Browns continue to overall their secondary.

Browns picks so far: Myles Garrett, Mike Williams, Joe Mixon, Patrick Mahomes, Fabian Moreau, Eddie Jackson, Joe Mathis, Vincent Taylor, Delano Hill.

186. Baltimore Ravens - Cethan Carter, FB, Nebraska (RinaldoPurrisimo)

He's got the speed and size to play TE in the NFL but does he have the hands? The Ravens draft him as a TE but will decide in Camp if he can play Fullback. His move blocking is superb for this class and might be the best Fullback prospect in the draft in that regard. Here the Ravens get another starter. So the Ravens, by drafting five possible starters up to this point, have improved every position they've drafted.

187. Jacksonville Jaguars - Nate Gerry, S, Nebraska (riqv)

Gerry is a physical beast who lacks good agility. I don't think he'll contribute much at safety but he will add depth and he has the potential to be a solid contributor on special teams. I can also see him being packaged in on sure running plays.

188. Cleveland Browns - Conor McDermott, OT, UCLA (Davidss)

McDermott is a depth pickup for the loaded Browns offensive line. They are set at everyone position but right tackle. Former first round pick Cam Erving will get the first chance and they used a 3rd pick up on Shon Coleman last year. McDermott gives them another "bullet in the chamber" to compete their offensive line.

Browns picks so far: Myles Garrett, Mike Williams, Joe Mixon, Patrick Mahomes, Fabian Moreau, Eddie Jackson, Joe Mathis, Vincent Taylor, Delano Hill, Channing Stribling.

189. Los Angeles Rams - Kenny Golladay, WR, Northern Illinois (ak4niner)

By drafting Golladay he just became the tallest WR on the Rams. This kid has most of the measurables needed: 6'4", 32" arm length, 9 3/4" hands. Has room to add more muscle and can be a great red-zone target. Has work to do in route-running and other teachable skills. Would be a nice addition for Goff to throw to.

190. Los Angeles Chargers - Speedy Noil, WR, Texas A&M (Blackout52)

191. New York Jets - Pharaoh Brown, TE, Oregon (Rhardin49)

Jets TE spot an extreme weak spot in a generally very weak offensive unit. Brown has relevant size, strength and speed. Has shown flashes, worth a shot in this late round pick.

Others considered: Boulware LB, Ironhead Gallon LB

192. Carolina Panthers - Jermaine Eluemunor, OG, Texas A&M (BryKno)

A tackle we're projecting to move inside to guard, Eluemunor has plenty of strength and a nice big frame at 6'4", 332 lbs. He has the agility to pull or work in zone blocking schemes, as well. A true developmental prospect -- he was a rugby player in England before moving to the US as a teenager, so he lacks some football knowledge. He has all the measurables to potentially be a starter, though we all know the difficulties moving someone from one sport to another can bring to the table. Apparently obscure enough that Fooch didn't even have him listed!

Other players considered: Keionta Davis, DE, Chattanooga (adequate power, great college production, stiff as a board); Johnathan Ford, S, Auburn (good starter in college but probably special teams, at most, in the NFL); KD Cannon, WR, Baylor (very good Playmaker score for this late in the draft; athletic marvel who still needs to learn to, y'know, catch the ball and run routes)

193. Cincinnati Bengals - Grover Stewart, DT, Albany State (Typecast)

When you see his physical measurements of 6'4" 340 lbs, you are probably thinking of a plug-the-hole stop-the-run type of defensive tackle prospect. Throw on the tape and he's surprisingly very athletic. Does a nice job using his length and hands at the point of attack. Seemingly always the first guy to react to the snap. Versatility all across the line and utilized in zone coverage.

Others considered: WR Karel Hamilton, OT Max Rich, QB Jerod Evans, QB Kyle Sloter

194. Philadelphia Eagles - Darius English, DE, South Carolina (ejdrummond)

195. Buffalo Bills - Avery Moss, DE, Youngstown State (O Liner)

Character concerns and very raw and quite one dimensional at the moment. But this is the 6th round, he's talented and a hell of an athlete. McDermott is the right coach for him, he works in his scheme, and going forward, there's starting potential there.

Others considered: Charles Walker, Jon Toth, Cameron Tom

I've picked up OJ Howard, Quincy Wilson, Curtis Samuel, Howard Wilson, Isaiah Ford and Avery Moss, and i have no more picks. Disappointed I couldn't find an RT or Linebacker, but missed out on Elijah Lee and Will Holden in the 5th. Overall, happy that I've improved the Bills roster in some key areas

196. New Orleans Saints - Donnel Pumphrey, RB, San Diego State (Fred Mercury)

197. Arizona Cardinals - Marquez White, CB, Florida State (HarbaughalypseNow)

Long-limbed and aggressive, Marquez White brings some much needed competition to the RCB conversation in Arizona. In 2015, QBs targeting White completed just 32% of passes. While 2016 tape was more OK than great - and his top end speed leaves something to be desired - this is a pretty nice value for Arizona on Day 3.

198. San Francisco 49ers - Aaron Jones, RB, UTEP (Joe Montana is GOAT)

There is a lot to like about his game and his college performance this past year shows it: 229 carries for 1773 rushing yards with 17 touchdowns, along with 28 catches for 233 yards receiving and three receiving scores. A top performer at the combine in his vertical jump, broad jump, 3 cone drill, and both the 20/60 yard shuttle's standing at 5ft 9. He should not be as powerful as he is, he looks to destroy everything in his path and is a good option in the passing game.

199. Minnesota Vikings - TJ Logan, RB, North Carolina (dumpster fire fan)

This pick gives the Vikings a spark on offense. Logan can be the receiving back for the Vikings as well as the new top return man now the Cordarelle Patterson has left in free agency. Bringing in a young compliment to Latavius Murray will help fill the void left by Adrian Peterson.

200. New England Patriots - Matt Milano, LB, Boston College (Mertons_merkin)

201. Washington - Nazair Jones, DE, North Carolina (AzSharksFan)

At this point in the draft my plan is to try and plug holes and get some depth and with Naz I get a legit End to help shore up the run defense. Jones has experience, productivity, and athleticism enough to contribute soon and gives our man Tomsula a legitimate pro talent with which to bludgeon.

202. San Francisco 49ers - Jordan Evans, LB, Oklahoma (Joe Montana is GOAT)

With 4.5 speed, Evans best skill is probably his coverage. He is a sideline to sideline player and as a zone player excels making him perfect for our WILL linebacker. He also is a good pass rusher if he needs to do that and he is a versatile player, as he lined up everywhere from middle linebacker to edge rusher to slot corner. However, he has a lack of physicality leads to completions he’s in position to disrupt, as well as missed tackles; very much an arm tackler who does not keep his feet and deliver a blow through his targets. Luckily we have Bowman who can teach him a thing or two and maybe he can develop into a really good player.

203. Denver Broncos - Elijah Hood, RB, North Carolina (Jonas Lima)

204. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - KD Cannon, WR, Baylor (BayAreaBOI)

With Cannon the Bucs get good speedy reciever. He might become a 4th or 5th WR on the depth chart but if he improves on his route running he could become a decent slot reciever. His comparison from NFL.com is Paul Richardson. That's not bad in the 6th round.

205. Detroit Lions - Tanzel Smart, DT, Tulane (GreatOden’sRaven)

At this point, I need to address the lack of depth in the front 7 for the Lions. Ngata won't play forever and is getting up in years, so he needs someone to spell him. Smart is a very good player but is smallish for his position. Were he 6'4 he would likely be a day 2 pick. The talent is there but he needs to get bigger. While I doubt he is ever a starter, getting rotational depth for a key position in the sixth round is a plus. I see Smart making the team and being part of a rotation on defense.

206. Miami Dolphins - Davon Godchaux, DT, LSU (Camp Frogger)

207. New York Giants - Marquel Lee, LB, Wake Forest (86derps)

In the 5th round the Giants wanted to LB Marquel lee, but went with Carroll Phillips instead. Having Marquel available in the 6th round was then a no brainer. Adding two linebackers will give them competition for any of the starting positions as well as better depth at the position.

If Marquel had not been available I had a DE, OL and a CB on my to select list. I'm not going to say who that was until after my 7th pick so that I don't project who I might select if any of the three fall the far into the 7th. :)

208. Oakland Raiders - De'Veon Smith, RB, Michigan (TryAndCatchVD)

De'Veon Smith isn't a particularly athletic RB, but he's a bigger back who has a 4 year degree in being the bruiser in a running back committee. He was productive enough for his limitations, and should translate well to the NFL as a role player with the patience and durability to complement Christian McCaffrey. According to various, and dubious" sources, he has shown some ability in both the receiving and blocking games.

209. Washington - Jordan Morgan, OG, Kutztown (PA) (AzSharksFan)

I've had this guy on my list for the past few rounds. At this point in the draft he is a really good value although he's not projected to be more than a project for at least a year. He played LT in college and excelled against weaker competition, but got a chance to test himself at the Senior Bowl and was able to hang with the better-known talent there. He projects to be a guard in the NFL but learning a new position and adjusting to the talent level will keep him busy.

210. Seattle Seahawks - Jehu Chesson, WR, Michigan (v3stige)

211. Dallas Cowboys - Charles Walker, DT, Oklahoma (MidnightSpecial)

212. Green Bay Packers - Ezra Robinson, CB, Tennessee State (HashtagMafioso)

Packers could and probably should take a couple corners, and Robinson has all the tools to be a decent NFL cornerback with fairly good height, size, speed, and athleticism

213. Pittsburgh Steelers - Jadar Johnson, S, Clemson (Fenderfreak81)

Again we go secondary in Pittsburgh, and again we are going with the player with the highest ceiling left on my board. Johnson is an athletic guy and he showed good ball skills in his one year starting; five picks and seven more passes defensed. I believe he can develop into a solid starter in this league. He shows below average ability choosing lanes to the ball carrier and sometimes seems confused and out of place, something I personally saw in Tyus Bowser film as well. This is likely in part to due to the fact he's a one year starter.

I think Johnson contributes to the Steelers on special teams this year and provides a talented backup who needs seasoning before I'd trust him. Perhaps he can be a Mike Mitchell replacement someday, or maybe not. In the late sixth you take fliers, and Johnson is a talented but inexperienced flier.

214. Tennessee Titans - Shaquill Griffin, DB, UCF (GSheen)

Quite surprised to see Griffin fell to me. His super athleticism, serious ball skills and great character offer any team an exciting player to work on. 28 passes defended over the last two seasons - 19 of them last season. Griffin allowed zero catches, broke up 5 passes in the Cure Bowl and the Collegiate Bowl combined, just to highlight a few.

Nonetheless, he's still need to be coached up to NFL caliber but his versatility will help him transition to the next level. Primarily played at corner, he also has some safety experience. Mixing in the fact that Griffin performed well as a gunner and jammer on special teams and launched himself in the air to block a field-goal attempt against Tulsa, Griffin has the makings of an instant-impact rookie in some regard for an NFL team right away. I'm confident he'll pan out better than some corners taken before him.

215. Detroit Lions - Dylan Cole, LB, Missouri State (GreatOden’sRaven)

Dylan Cole is a physical freak with decent college production. Hes built like a WWE wrestler, quick and extra hard hitting. Where he lacks is flexibility and football awareness. But he will be a day one starter on special teams and a very solid backup at LB. With his very recent transition to football and small school competition he wont be ready day one to play on Sunday but given a year or so as a special teamer with practice and he could develop into a starter. Its a gamble but this IS round 6.

Detroit so far: SS Jabrill Peppers, EDGE Tim Williams, RB Semaje Perine, OG Nico Siragusa, WR Shelton Gibson, DT Tanzel Smart, LB Dylan Cole

216. Kansas City Chiefs - Artavis Scott, WR, Clemson (JMichael39)

When Williams was busy being double teamed Scott was often the go-to guy and more times than not was a major contributor. He will be expected sooner or later to do the same for the Chiefs.

217. Cincinnati Bengals - Johnathan Ford, CB, Auburn (Typecast)

After moving on from Leon Hall last season, Josh Shaw proved to be inconsistent as a replacement. Bene' Benwikere was brought in to compete for the slot role. Ford was a highly touted safety prospect last offseason, but an inconsistent senior year in coverage has really dropped him this year. Nevertheless, Ford is an athletic prospect with range, ridiculous speed (4.25 lo, 4.38 hi @ pro day), hits/tackles with physicality, and has a very aggressive mindset. His destiny in the league will likely be a slot corner but he can bring depth at free safety, offer immediate impact on special teams as a kick/punt returner, and can be used offensively as a gadget player (was recruited as a RB).

218. Kansas City Chiefs - Kyle Fuller, C, Baylor (JMichael39)

Fuller is a versatile player who can play all three interior line positions.
