Greg Cosell thinks wide receiver is a possibility for the 49ers

The NFL films producer was a guest on Murph and Mac and tossed out a few names that may go at number 2—and they aren’t quarterbacks.

Senior NFL films producer Greg Cosell was a guess on KNBR’s Murph and Mac last week and offered a lot of his draft analysis on the 2017 NFL Draft prospects in regards to a fit for the San Francisco 49ers. Cosell was high on Reuben Foster and thought he’d be the one to go at No. 2. This was said before it was revealed Foster failed a drug test at the NFL Combine. For what it’s worth, this knowledge could have been well known long before Cosell had his interview and he still thinks Foster may be the 49ers guy. The drug test failure happened in the Combine after all.

Regardless, if not Foster, Cosell has the 49ers possibly going wide receiver at No. 2 with Western Michigan’s Corey Davis:

“I really like him [Davis]. Now, you’re going to hear the small school argument. Hey, I get it, there’s merit to that. But I think this kid has a chance to be really special. He’s 6’3, 210, he’s explosive. I’m not going to invoke any names, but when you watch him on tape and take quick slants and just burst with tremendous explosion. There’s a lot of guys who can do that. I’m not going to tell you he’s Julio Jones. I think he’s more like that than just a big possessive receiver. I think there’s an explosiveness in his game and that’s what separates him.”

There were some other names fed to Cosell to get opinions on, but Foster and Davis were the top ones recalled as being possible scenarios for the 49ers with the second pick.

As for the quarterbacks? Well, this says a lot:

“I’ll tell you one thing, I spoke to one coach who I know well, who’s been in the league a long time and he said this is the worse quarterback crop he’s seen since he’s been in the league.”

Do you see the 49ers considering Davis at number two?
