49ers start doing real football drills

Hurray, football!

The San Francisco 49ers returned to the offseason workout program on Tuesday, and it marked the start of the team’s voluntary veteran minicamp. The team gets the minicamp because they have a new head coach.

The team completed phase one of the program last week, and the field work was strictly strength and conditioning. The minicamp is affording the team an opportunity to do real football work. They can’t do full 11-on-11 drills, or anything close to that, but they can begin the process of implementing aspects of the offense.

More importantly, it means we have some video of actual football activities! The 49ers tweeted out the video below, featuring Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley throwing some passes and executing some handoffs. It is about as low on the level of football activities as we’ll see this offseason, but it’s better than nothing, right?
