The dream would appear to be dead. Cleveland Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot is reporting the team will indeed use the No. 1 overall pick on Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett. Cabot reported that multiple sources told her this as the 2017 NFL draft approaches in a few hours.
We have heard a host of rumors over the past three days that have attempted to push North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky up the draft board. The Browns are reportedly interested in Trubisky, but there are enough questions about him that it never made sense for them to draft him over Garrett. And considering they have been trying to move up from No. 12, it makes sense they would land Garrett, and then push from there to figure out a quarterback.
This means the 49ers have to go to plan A. Garrett would have probably been the choice if he was there, but I can’t imagine anybody in the 49ers front office legitimately thought it would happen. GM John Lynch has said the team has two or three options they are prepared to draft. He has also said the team is open for business to deal pick No. 2. It will be a busy three hours between now and the start of the draft for the team to try and get a deal done to move down for a haul of picks.
