The San Francisco 49ers have made their first of two picks in the third round, and it’s a big boost to the secondary. The team has selected Colorado cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon with pick No. 66. He joins a secondary that lost Tramaine Brock, and currently has Rashard Robinson as the primary starter with Jimmie Ward potentially moving to free safety.
This pick really excites me. Witherspoon has work to do, but he brings serious physicality. He’s the kind of guy who could be fantastic as a press corner.
The 49ers quickly followed by dealing pick No. 67 to the New Orleans Saints. The 49ers gave up 67 and got a seventh round pick (No. 229) and a 2018 second round pick. They are officially out of the third round.
