One of the biggest questions for the 49ers in the upcoming draft is when do the 49ers address the need for a quarterback. They currently have Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley, but Kyle Shanahan will want to draft a QB at some point on draft day. The names for the potential QBs taken have varied based on the mock drafts.
A name that has been thrown around recently is Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer. He has good size and arm strength, but accuracy seems to be an issue. He could potentially fall into the 2nd round, where the 49ers could snag him. The name that came up most often early in the offseason was Mitch Trubisky, but he’s a 1st round talent that the 49ers may not want to use the #2 pick on. I fully expect the team to see if they can grab a quarterback in the 2nd round with the #34 pick, but that could change if they can either trade down from #2 or quarterbacks are being picked in the 1st round. In the later case, the 49ers could try to trade back up in the 1st round a grab a QB.
The 49ers welcomed one of the top run blocking guards in the draft to their Santa Clara headquarters. Nico Siragusa, guard from San Diego State, was a big part of Donnel Pumphrey’s career run at SD State. The 49ers also officially signed RB Tim Hightower.
